Your child’s first tuition session will be used as an introduction for both the tutor and child to get to know one another and for the child to feel comfortable. The tutor will most likely do some “getting to know you” games and a brief assessment of where your child feels they are struggling. This will then help inform them, along with the information already provided, how best to support your child going forwards.
At the start of the session, the tutor will explain to you the tuition agreement which both parties will sign. Some tutors allow parents to stay for the first session or wait in another room, however this is not compulsory and we have found that children often settle better once their parents have left as there are fewer distractions.
You and your child will be shown where the tuition will take place and the session will get underway. If tuition is happening in your home, please ensure that you provide a quiet space with no distractions for the session to take place. Your tutor will provide all materials needed.
At the end of the session, your tutor will go through what was accomplished and confirm the next session with you. At Rachael Willcox Tutoring we do not set compulsory homework as children have enough homework from school. We may however suggest games or activities to further enhance the learning taking place in sessions.
